About Us
The Honey Tree Preschool is a state of the art, purpose-built centre located in the heart of Bellbird, adjacent to Bellbird Primary School. The centre operates from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday, 49 weeks a year.
The Honey Tree Preschool Bellbird is proud to have experienced and trained educators, new resources and innovative learning programs that incorporate:
- The National Quality Framework (NQF)
- The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)
- NSW Literacy and Numeracy Initiatives
Catering for children aged 3–5 years, the centre offers high-quality, individualised programs that support all areas of early childhood development and school readiness skills, focusing on children’s strengths, interests and areas for development.
The Honey Tree continues to provide a high-quality early childhood learning environment for the Cessnock LGA, meeting the growing demand for childcare places and extended care hours for working families.
The Preschool was officially opened in April 2012 by our local Member of Parliament, Joel Fitzgibbon and Mabel King, the Director’s grandmother, who was proudly a 4th-generation Bellbird-Mount View resident.
Owner and Director Kristie Boyd brings passion and dedication to early childhood education. In 2009, she was proudly nominated by her local community for a NEiTA National Inspirational Teaching Award and was honoured with an Australia Day Achievement Award for raising $22,000 for the Children’s Starlight Foundation through the successful organisation of a Starlight Ball.
In 2018, Kristie’s commitment to early learning was nationally recognised when she was published in the Every Child magazine— a respected publication distributed across universities worldwide — advocating for environmental education practices in early childhood settings.
The Preschool was the first service in the local area to achieve an EXCEEDING RATING for its innovative learning programs, focusing on numeracy and literacy and are extremely proud to have maintained this exceeding rating. The service was also a winner of the Young Legends Environment State Award 2019, hosted by Keep Australia Beautiful – Tidy Towns and sponsored by the NSW Environmental Protection Authority.
In 2024, the Honey Tree Preschool was thrilled to receive two prestigious state honours at the Excellence in Early Childhood Education Awards, winning NSW ‘Small Private Regional and Rural Service’ and ‘Excellence in Community Involvement’—number one in the state!
The Honey Tree Preschool is excited to celebrate thirteen successful years of operation in 2025 by creating a welcoming, relaxed, fun and friendly learning environment where children feel safe and nurtured while ‘instilling a love for learning’.
Priding themselves on structured routines and school readiness programs to enable children the best start for Kindergarten, the Honey Tree Preschool would especially like to thank the fantastic staff and families for their support and look forward to another wonderful year of fun and learning.
